Religious Expert: The Guardianship of Imam Ali Paved the Path to Religious Perfection

A religious expert has described the Guardianship (Wilayah) of Imam Ali (PBUH) as the decisive factor that shielded Islam from deviation and secured its perfection, calling the event of Ghadir Khumm the great turning point of Islamic history from which enemies of the faith have never recovered.

Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Meysam Babaei stated that the Eid of Ghadir represents "Eid Allah al-Akbar"—the greatest divine feast—and insisted that its true station can only be grasped by turning to the highest religious source, the Holy Quran, which provides unmatched descriptions of the day's magnitude.

A Message Equal to the Entire Prophetic Mission

The religious expert pointed to explicit Quranic verses, most notably verse 3 of Surah Al-Ma'idah, as evidence that the message proclaimed on the Day of Ghadir equals in weight the entire twenty-three-year prophetic mission of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his household).

"This verse declares plainly that Wilayah is the matter that drives the disbelievers into absolute despair," Babaei said. "In truth, Wilayah is the very means by which religion is completed and divine favor is perfected; it is what elevates the path of servitude to the stage of divine contentment."

Three Pillars of Human Growth

Elaborating on the Quranic framework of religious development, Babaei explained that Islam unfolds across multiple dimensions. The first stage encompasses foundational teachings—worldview, theology, anthropology, and eschatology—through which one grasps the nature of existence as it truly is. A further dimension concerns the growth and perfection of the human soul.

"Human growth resembles a sapling that, in order to become a blessed tree, requires wisdom and moral virtues," he said. "Wisdom is the maturation of human intellect and understanding, something the Quran repeatedly emphasizes. Yet these perfections are not attained through theory alone. The human being must walk the Straight Path, grounded in divine rulings and sacred law."

He described insight, virtue, and righteous action as "nourishment for the human soul in its intellectual and spiritual dimensions," leading ultimately to salvation and prosperity.

Ghadir: Appointing the Guardian of Religion

Babaei noted that throughout his twenty-three-year prophethood, the Holy Prophet both expounded wisdom and purified souls. However, for this path to endure, a divinely appointed guardian was essential.

"One of the central functions of the Imam is to safeguard religion from the ravages of distortion. Ghadir marked a decisive turning point because, in addition to the teachings of the faith, the protector of the faith was also designated by God and introduced to the community, so that the preservation of the Book and the Sunnah would be entrusted to those truly worthy of it."

Religion Without Wilayah: Exposed to Deviation

Warning of the perils of religion stripped of divine authority, the expert stressed: "Religion without Wilayah remains perpetually vulnerable to interpretive deviations, internal innovations, and a relapse into pre-Islamic ignorance. Addressing these challenges requires a divinely-ordained presence capable of both explicating the faith and implementing it within the fabric of society."

He described Ghadir Khumm as "the appointment of a divine gardener for the garden of Prophethood"—one who preserves the meaning of religious precepts from corruption and infuses the spirit of the faith into the body of the community.

Imamate: Bringing Religion to Life

Turning to the Quranic dimensions of Imamate, Babaei stated that the Imam's duty extends beyond preservation to the gradual familiarization of society with divine rulings, attuned always to the conditions of the age.

"Imamate means giving concrete reality to religion in the individual and social lives of the people. This process of actualization is a gradual path that the Imams of Guidance (peace be upon them) have advanced throughout history through their struggles. Its ultimate perfection will be realized at the time of the reappearance of Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his advent)."

Ghadir: An Unassailable Source of Guidance

In closing, the religious expert called for a renewed pledge of allegiance to the ideals of Ghadir, asserting that if Wilayah is properly expounded as the central pillar of the faith, enemies will prove powerless to shake the convictions of Muslims through media and cultural warfare.

"Ghadir is an inexhaustible spring that forever quenches the thirst of truth-seekers and keeps the path of guidance illuminated for all time."
